About Us

Over a decade of work at the intersection of food, health, and equity.

Our History

Food is Medicine Foundation (FIMF) grew out of more than a decade of work at the intersection of food, health, and equity. The founders have long focused on creating food is medicine solutions and nutrition-focused programs for people living with chronic disease, food insecurity, or both.

That work began by partnering with healthcare organizations, community providers, and food banks to supply healthy, food is medicine solutions to individuals whose conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or obesity are directly impacted by diet.

As the evidence for Food is Medicine programs has grown, so has the vision. Studies now show that food is medicine programs can reduce hospitalizations, lower emergency department use, and drive significant reductions in total healthcare costs. Alongside the meal delivery work, the team piloted digital tools, educational content, behavior-change platforms, and care coordination systems to extend the reach of nutrition support beyond the immediate meal.

The Foundation was created to formalize, scale, and sustain this work, drawing on the strength of community partnerships while building toward a model that can be replicated across the country.

Our Values

Equity

We believe access to nutritious food is a right, not a privilege. Our programs prioritize underserved communities.

Evidence-Based

Every program we run is grounded in clinical research demonstrating the power of food as medicine.

Community-Centered

We work alongside communities, not for them — building local capacity and lasting change.
